Asked Questions
It is normal to have questions and uncertainties when it comes to seeking therapy. This section is designed to provide helpful information to some of the most common questions. If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly or schedule a free 20-minute phone consultation.
How do I get started with individual therapy?
To get started with individual therapy, simply reach out to me through the contact information provided on the website. We can schedule an initial free consultation to discuss any questions or concerns you may have, or if you feel ready we can schedule our initial intake appointment. During the initial session, we will get to know each other, explore your goals, and assess your needs.
What can I expect in my first individual therapy session?
Overall, during an individual therapy session, you can expect a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can freely express your thoughts and emotions. I will actively listen, provide guidance, and help you explore and understand your concerns. The first session is often referred to as an intake session, and it is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I will ask you questions about your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. I will also provide information about my therapeutic approach and answer any questions you have. Together, we will work collaboratively to develop strategies and tools to address your specific challenges and support your needs.
Is there a more affordable option?
Support Groups: Support groups range from $15-40 per hour and can be quite powerful. By participating in a group setting, you benefit from the collective wisdom, support, and diverse perspectives of fellow group members. Many discover that they are not alone in their struggles and find validation and understanding from others who share similar challenges. Groups fosters a sense of connection, empathy, and belonging, which can promote personal growth, improve interpersonal skills, and enhance self-awareness. I regularly offer Weekly Grief Tending Circles, which you can learn more about at Northwest Grief Tending. Through these circles, we build supportive community, explore somatic and creative expressions of grief, and craft personal and collective grief rituals. If you are interested in joining a support group not focused on grief, please email me at sienatenisci@gmail.com to be put on the waitlist.
Sliding Scale: I have some ability to work on a sliding scale from $80-$120 for individuals who might struggle to afford my regular fee. Please reach out to inquire about sliding scale availability if you are in need.
Do you take my insurance?
I am an out-of-network therapist, which means that I do not take health insurance directly. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits that provide partial reimbursement for therapy services. While you may still be eligible for partial reimbursement from your insurance company, you will be responsible for the full fee upfront and will need to submit claims for reimbursement on your own. This means it is important to review your insurance policy or contact your insurance provider to understand your specific out-of-network benefits, including reimbursement rates and any required documentation for claims submission. I am happy to work with you to provide the right documentation.
